Michigan Crisis Response Association is mourning the loss of one of its founders. Sadly, Mike Murphy passed away this summer. Mike was such an integral part of MCRA in Michigan, CISM in Washtenaw County and supported many other teams and organizations benefiting those who experienced traumatic events. Mike, along with others, saw a need for crisis response in Michigan after the crash of flight 255 near Detroit Metro Airport in 1987. Out of this tragic crash MCRA was created. Mike became a trainer for numerous ICISF classes and founded the CISM teams in Washtenaw County (there were originally 2 teams - one for safety service personnel and one for the community which was called TERN - Traumatic Events Response Network). Along the way he helped create numerous teams including Civil Air Patrol (CAP), school teams in Washtenaw County, and Avalon Housing internal team.
We honor Mike for his years of dedicated service to helping others in need. He will be greatly missed.
